Memoirs
Per Picture
Let's walk through my memories per picture,
Jotting down my thoughts.
Little Blue Lake at 11300 ft elevation with Paiute Peak backdrop. It is a short walk from Blue Lake, in July if the snow is not melted there is a traverse full of snow with the Blue Lake exposure. You would cross 2-3 waterfalls on the way, getting waterproof shoes and some Yaktrax for the snow certainly helped me. From Brainard parking lot it is a 11 mile round trip to the Little Blue lake. It took me 6 hours with long camera breaks but views from Little Blue Lake are worth all the efforts.
There are bunch of waterfalls near the trail to Isabelle Lake. There were bunch of mosquitoes near the water, bug spray certainly helped a lot on this trail. Slow shutter and some some patience lead to this amazing shot just before I reached Isabelle lake.
Isabelle Glacier. At 12100ft this glacier is immediately east of the Continental Divide, so water from this glacier drains into Atlantic ocean! There were red stains on the glacier which made me think it might be some mineral deposits. Searching around I was not able to find anything related to Isabelle Glacier specifically, though there is a mention of #glacierblood in the French Alps. "Glacier Blood" is result of an #algae reacting to pollution and global warming. The Algae release 'carotenoids' (carrots have these too) while reacting to intense light and ultraviolet radiation at high altitudes. Surprisingly this algae is found only at sea, how it ended up on the glacier is currently being studied by scientists. Check #alpalga project. I was not able to confirm if these red stains in Isabelle glacier are like the one in Alps, if you find any information do let me know.
